BIO

Daniel Forster
Daniel Forster was born in Murten, Switzerland.
After working in Swiss photo studios, he became a freelance photographer in 1974 and has since covered 12 America's Cups, 1977 being the first one, and 11 Olympic Games, starting in 1972.
His photographs appear in every major nautical magazine in Europe, the USA, New Zealand, and Australia and in general interest magazines like STERN and TIME.
In 1986 he sailed the Uruguay to England leg of the Whitbread Race on board the winning “UBS Switzerland” yacht as a crewmember and photographer.
In 2001/2002 he worked with the "illbruck Challenge" to photograph their victorious global circumnavigation during the Volvo Ocean Race. It was the third time that he did all the race stopovers for a client.
The America's Cups became stepping-stones in his career:
Daniel was in Newport in 1983, when the Australians outsailed Dennis Conner and took the America’s Cup to Perth, Western Australia.
TIME magazine then sent him for five months to Perth, in 1986/87 and used his picture of winner Dennis Conner on the February 1987 TIME cover.
He was the official photographer for Bill Koch's America3 team in 1992, when it successfully defended the America's Cup, and in 1995 he was the official photographer for the "Women's Team” during the America's Cup defense. Another of his photographs on TIME magazine’s cover celebrated Team New Zealand's victory in 1995.
He spent five months in 1999/2000 reporting about the America's Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, working for Young America, and five month in 2002/2003 in Auckland documenting Dennis Conner's STARS & STRIPES challenge.
Maxi yacht owners like Bill Koch, Larry Ellison and Jim Dolan have commissioned Daniel to photograph their yacht's participation at major sailing events in book format.
Daniel is now one of the official photographers covering the Rolex Yachting Events, including Circuito Atlantico Sur Rolex Cup in Buenos Aires and Punta del Este, the Rolex Big Boat Series in San Francisco, the Rolex Fastnet Race, the Rolex Middle Sea Race in Malta and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
This schedule still leaves some time for a Beagle Channel cruise and Cape Horn rounding or a cruise through the Galapagos as Patrick de Barros's photographer on board SELJM.
Daniel Forster now lives in Jamestown, across the bridge from Newport, Rhode Island.
During his time off he goes fishing with his daughter Daphne:
